Ferry Transportation

Travelling via ferry between the North and South Islands takes you through the Cook Strait to see the beautiful scenery of Wellington Harbour and the Marlborough Sounds.  Ferry companies operate transportation between Wellington and Picton on a three hour journey.  The ferry companies allow for vehicle, pet, bike and kayak transportation for your convenience when travelling.

Some of the popular ferry operators people choose to travel with include:

  • Interislander: There are multiple times to choose from throughout the day which depart from Picton or Wellington.  Additional times are available in peak season (mid-December – January).  You can relax on-board and enjoy the facilities to make the voyage comfortable, including a cinema, shops, food and beverages, and Wi-Fi.

  • Bluebridge: Choose from times scheduled throughout the day from Picton and Wellington aboard the Bluebridge Ferries, which offer on-board facilities like private cabins, food and wine, movies and play areas.

Keep in mind that the weather may change your voyage departure and the ferry companies may keep in contact via text messaging or mobile if your voyage is delayed or cancelled.
